This morning I got up early, made a trip into the centre of Edinburgh and the heart of the Old Town and captured what turned out to be an epic sunrise! I covered the Royal Mile, around the area where the Palace of Holyrood House stands (and the Scottish Parliament Building opposite…it has its’ uses as you will soon see) and finally back up the Royal Mile taking more shots.
You are getting a worldwide preview on these before they go live anywhere else – hopefully you enjoy! All shot today, just over seven hours ago and fresh from my camera. Thanks for being members and enjoy the images.
I started capturing the sunrise from the top of the Canongate, looking down the Royal Mile towards Holyrood Palace. Wandering down the Mile a little further and shooting this one landscape to get a different view and a bit more of the colours. I walked on down the Royal Mile until I reached the Canongate Tolbooth (itself here since 1591) – not sure it’s seen a better sunrise in a long time! Looking down the Canongate from outside the Tolbooth. Looking over the Canongate towards Huntly House (now the Museum of Edinburgh) and the famous Bakehouse Close…and THAT sky! Now it was time to demonstrate the effect of that that sun and light on the Tolbooth and the buildings on the Canongate; note the light warming up the old stone and that clock face! Back down the Royal Mile and almost at the foot of the famous old street, looking towards Holyrood Palace. Looking over to the Abbey Strand at the very foot of the Royal Mile and more of THAT epic sky! And a bit more still! Holyrood Palace and THAT sky! Now I did say the Scottish Parliament building comes in handy for something didn’t I? And here it is; the ponds outside provide a great place to capture reflections of the buildings around and NOT the ugly parliament building! More reflections and more of THAT sky! And more… And more… And finally, one last! Looking towards Horse Wynd and that old cottage. Clouds now joining the party and only adding to the joy! The back of the buildings on the Abbey Strand. New Calton Burial Ground and some autumnal colours lit by the sun. The back of White Horse Close and some epic skies. Looking down the back of White Horse Close and the former stables. Low sun hitting the Balmoral and the station. Could this be THE best view anyone waiting on a train from a platform has, anywhere, in the world? Just maybe!
